Trump protests in the United States

The recent US presidential election in November, 2016, spurred a wide range of demonstrations across the United States. After what can be regarded as one of the most controversial presidential elections in US history, those unhappy with the results have since organized numerous protests, most notably in major cities such as Washington D.C., New York City, and Portland.

Following the election of Donald J. Trump, as the next president of the United States, the US saw two weeks of demonstrations across the country. The next wave of protests came amid the inauguration of the president elect on Friday January 20th, 2017, with several anti-Trump protests, as well as Women´s Rights marches across the country.

While the demonstrations often remained peaceful, protests in general have a risk of turning confrontational and escalate into violence. Safeture has reported on protesters clashing with the local police on numerous occasions, where the police have responded with tear gas, stun grenades and water cannons to protesters throwing objects at them.

Many of the Safeture alerts regarding the protests have had to do with traffic disruptions – large crowds caused traffic jams in many cities often leading to prolonged travel times. Traffic disruptions have further been an issue, as demonstrators on some occasions raised roadblocks on key highways. Through the alerts, Safeture was able to warn travelers of congested areas to avoid, and provide alternative travel routes. Damages to vehicles and property have also been reported in connection with protests.

Safeture’s aim is to inform and provide advice on how travelers can avoid possibly violent demonstrations, as well as to inform users about potential disruptions to traffic and services locally. Safeture has been following the events in the US closely, to keep travelers updated about the situation in the country during their travels.
