Travel Advice for Sandstorms

Dust and sandstorms are an unpredictable phenomenon, but are common in arid and semi-arid regions. For travelers that aren’t use to Sandstorms, visibility is low, and the storms can cause discomfort for individuals for people suffering from Asthma or other respiratory illnesses. If coupled with strong winds debris can also be carried by these storms.

Safeture provides notifications (in-app) of impending sandstorms, and gives advice for travelers that are unfamiliar with the phenomena.

Our advice is to:

  • Listen to a Weather Radio broadcast, this safety service or other local news channels for critical information on sand and dust storm updates.
  • Go to a designated public shelter if your current building loses power or communication, or if on foot, get to high ground.
  • Avoid driving when conditions include sand and dust storms. If travel is necessary, keep a disaster supplies kit in your vehicle.
  • Protect your respiratory tract by covering your nose and mouth with a damp cloth.

Safeture is a travel security app that provides travel alerts based on your current location. We send alerts and travel advice in real-time so you will always have the right information.
